Lancair Flies New 'Sentry' Turbo-Prop

Exactly one year ago, Lancair International flew their turbine engine powered Lancair IV-P. Seemingly without skipping a beat, Lancair is now introducing their newest version of turbine power: The Lancair Sentry. This Walter powered Lancair IV is a military-style tandem seat aircraft with left-side throttle controls, and a rear hinge canopy.

"The aircraft was designed for military training, but is still available for the typical Lancair customer," said Chief Pilot, Peter Stiles.  "The airplane performs very similar to the existing Propjet model, achieving a cruise speed of almost 400 mph!"

Only the top segment of the existing Lancair IV fuselage was modified for the new Sentry, as well as portions of the vertical tail.  Not only does this new Lancair kit yield blood-boiling speeds similar to the IV-P Propjet model, it also offers increased yaw stability and excellent visibility out of a newly designed rear hinge canopy.

The new Lancair Sentry kit is priced at $119,900, and will include the converted fuselage top half, the modified turbine firewall, turbine engine mount, fuel tank extension, and carbon fiber cowling.  Lancair Sales Manager Kim Lorentzen notes, "Sentry builders will also have the opportunity to spend up to two weeks in Lancair's Builder Assist Program, completing work on the wings, horizontal tail, flight controls and canopy."

The Lancair Sentry plans to make a grand entrance at the Reno Air Races September 12-15.  Lancair will have a display tent at the races, and plenty of information about the new aircraft.

Founded in 1984 by Lance Neibauer, Lancair has become one of the most successful kit manufacturers in the world.  The company manufactures the world's fastest piston-driven aircraft, and holds several world speed records as well as championships in most major cross-country air races.
