Airborne 12.29.16: AMA Drone Report!, Skydiving Santas, Female Afghan Pilot

Also: USAF Contract, AMA Expo West, JetSuiteX @KSMO, F-35 Costs, Wedding Drone, FAA Civil Penalties, Flight Attendant

The Aero-News Network is pleased to announce the first in a series of novel aviation news programming initiatives, via a partnership with the Academy of Model Aeronautics, which we all know as the AMA. Through this new partnership and initiative, we are creating what we call the ‘AMA Drone Report’.

It will be produced by the Aero-News Network, which is the first 24/7, 365, real-time online news service, now entering its third decade of daily news production. The fast-paced, mobile-device friendly programs will cover the latest news and information of interest to the entire recreational/hobby drone community. Just in case your Christmas spirit is starting to wear a bit thin, here’s a story about the Aero-sport of skydiving from Australia that will give you a chuckle. There is now a new entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most tandem parachute jumps in eight hours. However, there’s more to it than that because all of the tandem jumps involve Santa Claus. The record included 150 Santa Claus dressed volunteers who participated in the tandem skydive jumps. The woman who became the first female qualified to fly military airplanes in Afghanistan has requested asylum in the United States. Niloofar Rahmani earned her wings three years ago at the age of 22, and became a symbol of what women could accomplish in the post-Taliban era, according to a report appearing the Wall Street Journal. Rahmani came to the U.S. in the summer of 2015 to train with the U.S. Air Force in C-130 transport aircraft. The training ended just before Christmas this year, and she was scheduled to return to Afghanistan on Christmas Eve. However, she has now requested asylum in the United States because she is afraid she will be killed if she returns. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
