NBAA '04: L-3 Avionics Systems GH-3100 Now Standard Aboard New Piaggio Cockpit

Piaggio Aero Industrie has selected the L-3 Avionics Systems' Electronic Standby Instrument System (ESIS) Model GH-3100 as standard equipment for the redesigned cockpit of the P180.

"The advantage of the GH-3100 is its ability to visually match the aircraft's primary flight displays," Larry Riddle, L-3 Avionics Systems VP of Business Development. Complementing the ESIS GH-3100 is three Collins Pro Line 21 EFIS displays.

"This helps ease the transition from primary to standby in an emergency - aiding the pilot in locating the most urgent information quickly," adds Riddle. The Piaggio P-180 joins dozens of other midsize business aircraft utilizing the latest in cockpit avionics such as the GH-3100 from L-3 Avionics Systems.

Designed to replace conventional electro-mechanical standby attitude, airspeed and altitude instruments, the solid-state GH-3100 ESIS is capable of providing all three functions, plus heading, slip/skid, navigation data and vertical speed, in a single 3" flat-panel display. The GH-3100 features an integrated air data sensor card with pitot static connections directly to the unit, eliminating the need for a remote mounted air data computer. An Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) provides exceptional readability in direct sunlight as well as dark cockpit environments. The system has the ability to interface with the aircraft's navigation systems, providing more interfaces and flexibility than any other standby on the market today.

The Piaggio P180 Avanti is a high performance business transport turboprop able to reach speeds of up to 395 knots - performance previously only possible with jets. The Piaggio P180 combines high speed performance, a large cabin design, low fuel consumption and a quiet pusher configuration that competes with the growing business jet market.
