Cub Down Near Utah-Colorado Border

Pilot Survived The Accident In Knowles Canyon

The pilot of a Cubcrafters LSA survived an accident Saturday when the plane went down in Knowles Canyon near the Colorado-Utah border.

The Mesa County Sheriff's office said in a news release posted on Facebook that at 11:06 a.m. 911 received a report of a small single-engine plane, a 2-seater Cub, had gone down near the Colorado River in Knowles Canyon. Rescue crews were in contact with the pilot, the sole occupant on board. He was conscious and reporting no major injuries.

Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, Lower Valley Fire Protection District, Mesa County Search and Rescue, and Centurylink helicopter all responded to the accident site.

The pilot, who was not identified other than to say he was a 37-year-old resident of Grand Junction, Co, was flying from Moab to Grand Junction when the plane went down partially in the river.

He was not seriously injured. FAA records indicated that the aircraft is a Cubcrafters LSA registered to Diamond M Aero LLC located in Bellaire, TX.
