Airplane Lands Short Of Oshkosh Runway

Pilot Suffered Only Minor Injuries, Airport Closed For An Hour

A pilot from Pennsylvania arriving at AirVenture landed short of runway 18/36 Sunday night, resulting in damage to the airplane but only minor injuries to the pilot.

EAA spokesman Dick Knapinski said the pilot had been identified as 39-year-old Richard Maisano. He was transported to a medical center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The aircraft was identified as a BRM Aero Bristell LSA registered to Sport Flying U.S.A. Knapinski said it was possible the pilot was a vendor at the show.

The accident occurred at about 1800 CDT, and Wittman Regional Airport was closed for about an hour while FAA conducted its initial investigation. Runway 9/23 reopened about about 1900 CTD, and the airport was fully open by Monday morning.
