The Future Of Aviation Could Prove To Be Uniquely Powerful
Learning to fly can be an “electrifying” experience, and ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, gives us a new view of this experience while he was at the Redbird Migration 2014. Campbell met with George Bye, the CEO of the Aero Electric Aircraft Corporation. The subject in this discussion was all about learning to fly in an electric airplane.
Bye believes that the time of a practical electric airplane has come about due to a combination of technologies. In the video you’ll see a comparison of the operating cost between a proposed electric training plane and the more typical Cessna trainer. Their airplane, called the Sun Flyer, could have a direct hourly operating cost as low as $.90 to $1.50 per hour.
Other parts of the technology includes aerodynamics, the construction process, and the advances in electric motor and battery technology. Bye said their prototype aircraft, a single place, proof-of-concept airplane, is already flying and you’ll see this plane in the video.
Whether you’re interested in flight training, electric aircraft, or you just want to see something really cool, this is the video to watch.
