NTSB To Host Volunteer Pilot Safety Seminar 'Stand Down'

Sessions To Be Held At Board's Training Center In Virginia

The NTSB, Angel Flight, and AOPA are holding a volunteer pilot safety stand down seminar at the NTSB Training Center in Ashburn, Virginia on March 25, 2011.

NTSB Chair Deborah A.P. Hersman, will give the keynote address to open the seminar at 0900. Her speech will be followed by four NTSB accident briefs from investigations involving volunteer pilots - Mr. Paul Cox, Senior Air Safety Investigator. Additional NTSB sessions will deal with weather issues with meteorologist Don Eick, and a lecture and viewing of the reconstruction of TWA800 with Dr. Paul Schuda, Director, NTSB Training Center.

The seminar will also offer participants perspectives from the FAA from Ms. Susan Parson, Editor of FAA Safety Briefing magazine, and a session on safety systems led by Karen Arendt, FAA Washington FSDO FAAST Team Program Manager

AOPA will present sessions geared towards volunteer pilots including safety and legal issues led by Mr. Bruce Landsberg, President of AOPA Foundation and Mr. Jonathan Greenway, Chief Flight Instructor and Safety Director, Air Safety Institute, and others.

Registration is free and limited to 200 participants. Attendees must register on line.
