Astronics Drives CorePower For Electric Aircraft

Astronics Pushes CorePower To Support Electric Aircraft Industry

Astronics Corporation’s CorePower line of products, specifically for Airframe Power, has been expanded to include new offerings to its high-voltage power conversion (950VDC to 28VDC) and high voltage/high current solid state switching devices for bi- and uni-directional power distribution with load protection.

Astronics stated that the new lineup is flexible and modular, and that intelligence has been added to ever element of the power system to meet industry standards. Furthermore, they see the use of electric systems as supportive of the More Electric Aircraft (MEA) architectures, especially in electric propulsion and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL).

The airframe electrical power systems use solid-state technology to deliver clean and efficient power, and subsequently improve aircraft operation through weight and system wirings. To think that an old-fashioned ADF (like the KR-86 receiver, wiring and antenna weighs almost 8 pounds) it’s a no-brainer to see how much of an operational and weight improvement the new stuff provides. Some may argue that you’re also several aviation monetary units lighter after the upgrade!  The author sees partnerships for ePropulsion and eVTOL in Astronics’ future.
