UPS Pilots Agree To Tentative Contract

Will Go To Vote In September

It's been almost four years in the making... and now, a new contract between UPS and its pilots is all done but for the final vote.

We don't have any details on the new contract yet... except that, if approved, it would run through 2011. Voting is expected sometime in mid-September.

It's been a tough road to plough for both sides. Contract talks have been overseen by a federal mediator since 2004. The International Pilots Association, which represents the company's 2,700 pilots, had asked to be released from mediation so its members could consider a strike.

Meanwhile, pilots at competing global cargo hauler FedEx are already on the picket line, even though they're not on strike. They're working under a contract that expired two years ago.

Now... FedEx has asked for federal mediation in the ongoing talks.
