RyanAir Fires Toilet-Seated Workers

Senior employees, pilot fired for using toilets as jump seats

Two Ryanair employees were fired and one pilot resigned Friday after it was found that they used toilet seats in an aircraft's lavatories as jump seats because the flight was already full.

The airline said the pilot of the flight from Girona, Spain to Dublin, Ireland resigned after admitting that he gave permission for the two senior employees to sit in the lavatories because no more seats were available on the flight.

Ryanair said in a statement to the Associated Press that the pilot had 30 years' experience. The two workers were categorized as "Senior Number One's." This meant, the airline said, they both were "fully aware of our seating and boarding regulations." They refused to resign when confronted and were "dismissed for gross misconduct."

The Irish Aviation Authority continues to investigate the incident.

(Maybe this has something to do with the recent discovery of the source of the Irish Jig dance... Too much beer, not enough toilets... Ed.)
