There's a few more skirmishes involving the FAA to report these days... big surprise, that.

The FAA is cutting jobs in Alaska, but the agency says the cuts will not impact your next flight in or out of Alaska. More than two dozen Alaskans who work for the FAA in Anchorage will either have relocate to the Seattle area or find other jobs.

FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown says air traffic controllers are NOT among those employees losing jobs. However, the president of the Alaska local of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association's architects and engineers division disagrees and says GA could be adversely impacted.

Larry Ihlen says the positions being relocated out of Alaska involve staff that supports traffic-control operations, including employees who help maintain and repair traffic-control equipment. He says the change could have a negative impact on flight in Alaska, particularly on the numerous small planes in the state and their pilots and support facilities.

The FAA says the job cuts are part of a nationwide FAA effort to control costs, and says it is not hiding anything and doesn't have a secret agenda regarding its operations in Alaska.
