ForeFlight Mobile 2.1 Released For iPhone

Upgraded App Now Available For Download

While the world isn't exactly lacking for new applications for Apple's popular iPhone, there's a new one out there that no pilot should be without. The latest version of the ForeFlight Mobile flight planner is now available on the Apple App Store... and it's the real deal, not just flashy wallpaper.

ForeFlight 2.1 includes airport data for approximately 27,000 landing facilities stored on disk. A download manager will keeping the users database up to date, while completely redesigned airport information pages offer more detail, including visual runway orientation. A greatly improved flight plan filing system includes Next and Previous buttons on the flight plan form, flight plan copy and delete, flight plan "fix" feature for those that fail to file for any reason, detailed email confirmations, and a filed confirmation code.

The upgraded app also includes weather imagery, including winds aloft. Over 250 new airport thumbnail diagrams show FBO locations on the field, as well as more airport details, including sunrise and sunset, timezones, operating hours, airport coordinates, and runway elevations.

The gang at ForeFlight tells ANN its new version 2.1 sports a level of quality "that reflects our core development and design objectives. We had a crack team of beta testers helping us out with this release as well, and the result is an update we’re very excited to have made available."

At $74.99, ForeFlight isn't the cheapest application available for pilots in the App Store... but ForeFlight pointedly says other, cheaper apps often represent the old-tech axiom, "you get what you pay for."

ANN E-I-C Note: Just installed this on our iPod Touch and the install process was a cinch. What we see, so far, is pretty impressive and appears to be nicely designed. We'll have more info, as soon as we shake it out. Their checklist software is also exceedingly well done...
