System Is Reportedly The World’s Smallest, Weighing Only 2 Pounds

Pipistrel has selected Honeywell’s SATCOM system for all of their proposed unmanned aircraft platforms. This includes the fixed-wing Surveyor and both unmanned Nuuva platforms, the V300 and smaller V20. Honeywell’s Small UAV SATCOM system weights only 2.2 lbs, which is reportedly 90% lighter than the next smallest connectivity system the company produces. Honeywell’s offering is becoming very popular in this new market segment and will be implemented specifically on an unmanned cargo or optionally manned aerial vehicle.

Embraer Electric Demonstrator Begins Flight Test

WEG and EDP Collab On The Project

Embraer has begun the flight test campaign for an electric demonstrator aircraft at its facility in Brazil. Embraer is conducting this new stage in development alongside electric mobility solutions providers, WEG and EDP. Computational simulations, lab tests and ground integration of technology have all been taking place since the second half of 2019, with the goal to demonstrate real flight conditions. Power, performance, control, thermal management, and operation safety were the features assessed in these manned first flights.

100th Cadet Earns Private Pilot Certificate Through Cadet Wings

Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Andrew Wilson of the Texas Wing’s David Lee (Tex) Hill Composite Squadron became the 100th cadet to earn his private pilot certificate through CAP’s Cadet Wings program. The Fourth Of July at San Marcos Regional Airport was extra festive for Wilson, 18, who received his certificate following his check ride with an FAA examiner. The achievement comes just days before reporting to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. “It was a good day,” Wilson said. “I’m excited to have it done, and for what comes next.” He hopes to eventually become a military aviator, with his goals leaning toward flying jets.

flyGATEWAY Aviation Institute Places Order for 20 Piper Pilot 100i

Will Begin Taking Delivery Of Their First Fourteen Aircraft In January Of 2022

Piper Aircraft has announced an order for twenty (20) Pilot 100i single-engine trainers from Pennsylvania and Delaware based flyGATEWAY Aviation Institute. The order was received on the third day of EAA AirVenture 2021. flyGATEWAY, a Liberty University Flight Training Affiliate, will begin taking delivery of their first fourteen aircraft in January of 2022. The remaining six (6) aircraft will be delivered later in 2022. The aircraft will be spread across flyGATEWAY’s four locations and will support their Part 141 career pilot training program.

Boeing Will Deliver Tanker To JASDF This Year

The first KC-46A tanker built for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) recently refueled another KC-46A aircraft in the skies over Washington state. The Japan-bound tanker also successfully received fuel in return. “Refueling with the first Japan KC-46A is an important milestone for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force,” said Jamie Burgess, KC-46 program manager. “KC-46A is the world’s most advanced air refueling aircraft and has already transferred more than 42 million gallons of fuel to other aircraft globally through its boom and drogue systems.”

NTSB Prelim: Piper J3C-65

He Remembered About One To Two Seconds Of The Spin And Had No Further Recollection Of The Accident

On July 31, 2021, about 1130 central daylight time, a Piper J3C-65 airplane, N42522, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Hartford, Wisconsin. The flight instructor was fatally injured and the pilot receiving instruction was seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 instructional flight. The pilot receiving instruction reported that they had been practicing touch-and-go takeoffs and landings from runway 27 at the Hartford Municipal Airport (HXF) and had performed about 10 before the accident occurred. Visual Approach An approach conducted on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan which authorizes the pilot to proceed visually  and clear of clouds to the airport. The pilot must, at all times, have either the airport or the preceding aircraft in sight. This approach must be authorized and under the control of the appropriate air traffic control facility. Reported weather at the airport must be: ceiling at or above 1,000 feet, and visibility of 3 miles or greater.
