Austin Flying Club Joins Carbon Offset Program

Step Up Aviation Offers Wide Range Of Aircraft

Carbon offset provider Carbon Neutral Planes announced Monday a partnership with Step Up Aviation LLC, a flying club and flight school located in Austin, TX.

Step Up Aviation provides members a variety of aircraft, ranging from a classic 1946 Cessna 140 to a modern, Cirrus SR22. The newest addition to Step Up Aviation is a Tecnam Bravo that operates under special Light Sport Aircraft rules.

"By offering a wide variety of aircraft, we are able to reduce the cost of flying for our members because for each flight they are able to utilize the aircraft that is exactly suited to their trip," said Bob Birlingmair, president of Step Up Aviation. "Furthermore, this variety enables our members to start flight training in a simple, economical aircraft and to move up to more sophisticated aircraft as their experience and training mature.

"Our community, Austin, TX, is noted for its environmental awareness, so participating in the Carbon Neutral Plane program is a natural way for our business to reflect our own values, as well as those of our community," Birlingmair added.

Carbon Neutral Plane offers two programs, one tailored for owners of business aircraft and one for owners of private aircraft. The Bend, OR-based enterprise also conducts research and provides consulting services in the field of the environmental impacts of aviation.

"Step Up Aviation is precisely the type of aviation operation for which we designed our program; a progressive, technically sophisticated operation with a sensitivity to its customers’ wishes," said Jeff Witwer, president of Carbon Neutral Plane. "It is significant that Step Up Aviation operates in aviation-savvy Texas. They realized that by having their fleet certified by Carbon Neutral Plane, they not only demonstrate their environmental good-citizenship, but they positively impact their business by appealing to environmentally concerned students."
