Aerial And Static Displays Planned For The Show
Air show organizers for the Wings Over Golden Isles Air Show received confirmation from the U.S. Navy an F-35C Lightning II aircraft will be on display during the event taking place March 24-26. This announcement arrived on the heels of the schedule release for the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team’s appearance during the air show. The paired announcements bring added excitement for the event as one of the only air shows in the southeast to feature both fifth generation U.S. fighter aircraft.
The F-22 and F-35 are manufactured by Lockheed-Martin and include the performance features found in the fourth generation fighter design. The next generation aircraft also incorporate all-new levels of performance, stealth profiles, and advanced avionics with integrated all-digital flight systems.
The F-22 Raptor will perform aerial demonstrations all three days of the air show weekend, including kicking off the Friday evening twilight air show performances. While not performing, the F-35 Lightning II will be on display throughout the air show for spectators to view up close. Other military aircraft also featured in the display area include: the T-38 Talon, F-18 Hornet, T-6 Texan, P-3 Orion, C-17 Globemaster, and C-130 Hercules. Additional static aircraft will include the Berlin Airlift C-54, C-46 Tinker Belle, B-25 Panchito and Boeing 707. Prior to and during air show performances, attendees can walk around and experience anything from a single-engine, single-seat WWII-era warbird to current day, large-scale cargo aircraft and fighters.
Those interested in taking a flight have the option of flying in a Vietnam-era UH-1 Huey or AF-1F Cobra helicopter. These flights are available for an addition fee and can be reserved in advance. A full-day pass to the kids’ zone may also be purchased to burn off some excess energy with bounce houses, slides, and more.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening for the twilight air show followed by a concert featuring Southern rock favorites .38 Special. The concert will take place immediately following the Friday evening twilight air show. For the Saturday and Sunday performances, gates will open at 9 a.m. and feature the same line-up each day. Flying demonstrations will conclude with air show headliners, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
