AD NUMBER: 2017-19-12
PRODUCT: All Airbus Model A300 series airplanes; Airbus Model A300 B4-600, B4-600R, and F4-600R series airplanes, and Model A300 C4-605R Variant F airplanes (collectively called Model A300-600 series airplanes); and Airbus Model A310 series airplanes.
ACTION: Final Rule.
SUMMARY: The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2014-13-17, which applied to the aircraft listed above.
AD 2014-13-17 required repetitive functional tests of the circuit breakers for the fuel pump power supply, and replacement of certain circuit breakers.
This new AD requires installation of fuel pumps having a new standard, which terminates the repetitive functional tests. This AD was prompted by our determination that installation of a newly developed fuel pump standard will better address the unsafe condition.
COST: The FAA estimates affects 128 airplanes of U.S. registry.
The actions required by AD 2014-13-17 and retained in this AD take about 1 work-hour per product, at an average labor rate of $85 per work-hour. Based on these figures, the estimated cost of the actions that are required by AD 2014-13-17 is $85 per product, per inspection cycle.
The FAA also estimates that it will take up to 21 work-hours per product to comply with the basic requirements of this AD. The average labor rate is $85 per work-hour. Required parts cost per product is not available. Based on these figures, the estimated cost of this AD on U.S. operators to be up to $228,480, or up to $1,785 per product.
DATES: This AD is effective October 24, 2017.
