DJI has introduced two additions to its Mavic series: Mavic 2 Pro, with an integrated Hasselblad camera, and the Mavic 2 Zoom, the first foldable consumer drone with optical zoom capability. The Mavic 2 incorporates the folding design of the Mavic Pro.

The Mavic 2 has new gimbal-stabilized cameras and advanced features like Hyperlapse and ActiveTrack and offers a flight time of up to 31 minutes. The Mavic 2 Pro is the first drone with an integrated Hasselblad camera and houses a 1-inch CMOS sensor with a 10-bit Dlog-M color profile. Powered by a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, the Mavic 2 Zoom is DJI’s first foldable consumer drone with zoom, combining two-times optical zoom (24-48mm) with two-times digital zoom. Both cameras capture 4K ultra-HD video, recording at a maximum bitrate of 100 megabits per second using the H.265 compression codec. The AMA Foundation has announced that the 2018 Foundation for the Future Sweepstakes is now open. Those 18 years or older can enter to win an exciting trip to AMA Expo West (November 2-4, 2018) and a ride in Lady Alice, a P-51 Mustang, now through October 1, 2018. On Saturday, August 18, middle and high school students from across the U.S. competed in the UAS4STEM program’s national competition at the International Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana. The student teams built their own drones and competed in various flying challenges for a shot at the national title. The challenge is designed to encourage students to learn about the sUAS phenomenon through teamwork, competition, and success through STEM. The 2018 UAS4STEM Search and Rescue Challenge first place finishers were MMRT (McIntosh Multi-Rotor Team) from Peachtree City, GA, second place finishers QuadoBots are from Great Mills, MD, and third place finishers St. Mary’s Civil Air Patrol Squadron from Leonardtown, MD.
