Commemorative Air Force Seeks Donations

Funding Used To Keep Iconic Warbirds Flying For All To Enjoy

The Commemorative Air Force is one of the largest private air forces in the world with more than 160 airplanes in 80+ units across America that still fly today. Rather than being tucked away in some museum or stripped down for scrap, the CAF's "flying museum" of airplanes brings history to Americans all over the country.

But the organization says that it is more than just a collection of airworthy warplanes from the past. The CAF was founded to acquire, restore, and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft flown by all military services of the United States and select aircraft from other nations for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans.

According to a fundraising appeal posted on the group's website, most of the 300,000 aircraft produced during WWII were gone by 1960 because neither the Air Force nor the Navy tried to preserve these precious artifacts. "The job of collecting and preserving our WWII warplanes was left to the Commemorative Air Force and concerned Americans like you."

The Commemorative Air Force says it is the only group who is restoring, maintaining and flying our precious WWII warbirds. "No government agency is doing this, and we do not receive any government funds for our efforts to keep these historic aircraft flightworthy," the appeal states.

Deductions to the CAF are tax-deductible.
