According to an official release from the base, the pilot ejected from the aircraft and was transported to the Mike O'Callaghan Federal Hospital for medical examination, but was uninjured.

The Associated Press reports that Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee received a report of a "large explosion and fireball" near U.S. Highway 93. The airplane reportedly went down in a rugged area, and responders had difficulty reaching the crash site. The pilot has already started to walk out of the desert when he was picked up by a military helicopter.

The incident is under investigation.
