Dayton, Ohio Air Traffic Controllers Critical Of Planned Moved

FAA Moving Some Functions To Columbus

All Air Traffic Controllers in Dayton, Ohio know is that the FAA plans to move some of their operations to Columbus "sometime this summer," but NATCA says the agency has not yet specified which functions or how many jobs will be moved across the state, or what their jobs will be when they get there.

That has the union concerned about how to prepare for the move on short notice. The Dayton Daily News reports that NATCA held a meeting with pilots at Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport Tuesday, had planned a similar meeting Wednesday at Dayton International Airport.

FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro said the agency has not yet decided how many positions will be moved to Port Columbus International, but that the current plan would transfer the TRACON functions to the mid-state facility. Molinaro said the move would likely occur when Dayton International's new $20 million control tower becomes operational.

Molinaro said the FAA is meeting with union representatives to assure that the move takes place in accordance with union contracts. Similar moves are being planned in other areas of the country as well.
