Sierra Completes Noise Testing On FJ44 Super II

Company Expects FAA Approval Shortly

Nearing the end of FAA flight testing, the Sierra Super II recently completed FAA FAR 36 and EASA ICAO Annex 16 noise testing under FAA Type Inspection Authorization (TIA) #3.

Utilizing a sophisticated array of calibrated microphones and testing equipment, FAA personnel examined aircraft noise levels in a variety of situations. The noise-level testing performed May 19 completes all required testing for the noise certification, and the data is being analyzed for submittal to the FAA.

To date, all "high-risk" flight tests have been completed -- including single engine takeoff, climb rate and landing scenarios. With the FAR 36 Noise Test completion, FAA approval of the Super II re-engining STC is expected shortly.

In previous testing, the aircraft easily achieved a cruise speed of 404 KTAS. The Super II will be certified to a maximum speed of 416 KTAS.

Sierra says the Super II provides a substantial across-the-board performance enhancement for the Citation II -- boosting fuel efficiency as much as 27%, cutting time-to-climb to under 25 minutes to FL430, extending range to nearly 1800 NM, and increasing maximum fuel payload.

The company also cites dramatic reductions in takeoff field length, and increased climb rates, for the Super II. Dual Channel FADEC controls provide smooth, vibration-free flight for passengers and a reduced workload for the pilot.

Building on Sierra’s 25 years of Citation modification history and 15 years of experience in Citation re-engining, the Super II development program has been leveraged on the FAA and EASA-approved Eagle II and Stallion modifications, which also feature Williams International FJ44 turbofans.

The Super II modification extends Sierra’s history of producing more than 40 FJ44 re-engined Citations since 2002.
