AMA Drone Report 06.20.19: FAA LoA, SAFEDrone, EU-Wide Rules

Also: ANN Oshkosh Coverage, Uber Eats Delivery By Drone, CA State Fair Drone Show

The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 requires all flying sites within controlled airspace to have a letter of agreement (LOA) with air traffic control (ATC) facilities.

AMA is working directly with the FAA to prioritize this work and ensure that you have the protections you need to continue to fly. However, we need some additional information to accomplish this. Recently, emails have been sent to club officers to ensure correct completion of an FAA questionnaire to obtain the information needed for this LOA. Multiple submissions for the same flying site will delay the process of an LOA, so the email was sent only to club officers to coordinate this effort. SAFEDrone is a classroom protocol for training students to operate drones indoors, assuring proper training to mitigate risk. Students will apply classroom math, science and engineering by understanding, ”How does a drone fly”. Students first learn the terms and science then train using the SAFEDrone simulation software and controller with multiple milestones. Upon successful completion of the simulator missions students are awarded their “Wings” and begin to fly guarded prop quad-copters replicating the sim missions using drones. On June 11, 2019 common European rules on drones, were published to ensure drone operations across Europe are safe and secure. The rules will help to protect the safety and the privacy of EU citizens while enabling the free circulation of drones and a level playing field within the European Union. The common rules will help drone operators, whether professional or recreational, to have a clear understanding of what is allowed or not. Once drone operators have received an authorization in the state of registration, they are allowed to freely circulate in the European Union. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
