NBAA Says Safety Is A Priority In Las Vegas

Working With Local Law Enforcement Following Mass Shooting

The tragedy that happened in Las Vegas on Sunday has everyone on edge. But the city is a popular destination for hundreds of conventions and trade shows every year, including the NBAA-BACE, which is coming up next week.

NBAA released a statement this week to reassure those planning to attend the annual convention and trade show that safety is a top priority for the city as well as the organization.

"NBAA’s thoughts and prayers are with the citizens of Las Vegas, in light of the horrific events that have taken place in the city," the association said in the statement." For any NBAA event, our top priority is the safety and security of all participants, and we are in coordination with federal and local officials to ensure that NBAA's Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) participants are in a safe, secure environment."

The association posted the following list of Frequently Asked Questions on its website:

Will NBAA-BACE proceed as planned?
Yes, we will hold NBAA-BACE as planned, and we have increased security to ensure attendees and exhibitors will be in a safe environment throughout the course of the entire show.

We’ve been in discussions with Nevada civic and business leaders, and we believe the best way to support the people of Las Vegas is by showing the strength of our communities coming together.

Have any major exhibitors or presenters cancelled their involvement in NBAA-BACE?
No, we have been in touch with all our major exhibitors and presenters, and we’re pleased that they are all planning to be at NBAA-BACE.

Will security be increased at NBAA-BACE?
Yes, we have been in coordination with federal, state and local officials to put additional security measures in place. At both the Las Vegas Convention Center and the static display at Henderson Executive Airport, attendees will pass through bag checks and ID checks to enter the show.

Throughout the convention center and at Henderson, attendees and exhibitors will see an increased security presence, including Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers.

How should attendees report suspicious activity?
If you see something suspicious at the Las Vegas Convention Center during the show, please report it to Customer Safety by calling 702-892-7400 or texting 78247. Inside the convention center, Customer Safety can respond fastest, and will also contact law enforcement. If you see something to report at Henderson Executive Airport, or anywhere else during the show, please call 911.

Are any travel delays anticipated for the week of the show?
No, McCarran International Airport, Henderson Executive Airport, and all roads to Las Vegas are fully open.

How can I help the families of victims and the people of Las Vegas?
As we’ve been in touch with local leaders and caregiving organizations, they have clearly expressed that Las Vegas does not currently have a need for donations of basic supplies.

Anyone with questions, or needing more information, should contact 202-783-9000, or questions@nbaa.org.

The convention and trade show kicks off next Tuesday, and runs through Thursday, October 12.
