Recent Additions Offer Greater Data Usage for Business Customers
Inmarsat has announced a change in its range of Jet ConneX inflight broadband plans, with new provisions for high-mileage users looking to more data than previous tiers permitted.
The initiative was launched under Inmarsat's JX Evolution program, allowing users of the firm's Honeywell JetWave terminal to connect to the global Ka-band network. Inmarsat will soon offer compatibility with other terminals from Satcom Direct and Orbit. Flight testing of Satcom Direct's "Plane Simple" system is currently undergoing flight testing with Inmarsat, who expects to approve it later this year.
Jet ConneX customers will soon see additional network improvements when future Inmarsat payloads launch through 2025, with 7 more Ka-band network relays slated for launch. That includes 2 Inmarsat-6s, already in orbit, with 2 more payloads in a "highly elliptical orbit" and a trio of satellites in geostationary orbit. The elliptical satellites will allow Inmarsat to offer a rarity in the satcom game: Coverage for mobile broadband service in high latitudes and Arctic locales. The geostationary additions will serve to bolster the network, relieve congestion, and improve performance throughout the day-to-day operation of the Inmarsat network.
“These service plans have been specifically designed to deliver even greater value and performance based on unique insights into usage of our inflight broadband service. This build-up approach is unique to Inmarsat and cannot be replicated by others in the market, some of which have a tendency to over-promise and under-deliver, either from the start or as their networks fill and performance degrades.
“Crucially, this is only the next step for us. We will continue to assess usage and adapt accordingly, with even more flexible options to be announced later this year.”
