Witness: Aircraft Involved In Caledonia, MI Accident 'Wasn't Right'

Two Flight Instructors Escaped Accident Without Injury

A Cessna P210 which went down in a cornfield in Caledonia, MI apparently experienced engine problems, according to the pilots on board and one witness.

Scott Rogers noticed the Cessna as he stood outside on his Michigan dairy farm Monday morning, but said "I didn't hear the motor going or anything," according to a report in the Grand Rapids Press. Rogers said he heard what he described as a "soft bang" before the airplane went down just after 0900 EDT. A post-impact fire substantially damaged the aircraft.

The 1982 Centurion was registered to Centurion Aviation in Ada, MI. The 42-year-old pilot and 26-year-old passenger, both flight instructors, reportedly departed Monday morning from Gerald R. Ford International Airport (KGRR) to perform some avionics checks on the airplane. The pilot said he heard a "loud bang" at about 4,000 feet, and was unable to restart the engine. Neither person on board the aircraft was injured.
