There was a time when some pilots earned their way up the ladder of hours by hauling checks and other
assorted cargo through the dark of night. For the most part his was done in loud nasty looking aircraft who were at the end of their useful years. Whether these operations were called “haulin’ the midnight mail” or “freight dogging” they were conducted pretty much in all weather. The pilots would pound their way through the early darkness of dusk, land at the major cargo hub, conk out in the crew lounge for a few hours of sleep and then scurry back to their aircraft and fly until dawn.

Bombardier, the Canadian company that set out to build snowmobiles in 1934 and today presides over a $25-billion Aerospace empire, announced that it has entered into an agreement with Lenexa, Kansas-based private aviation concern Airshare, by which the latter will acquire twenty Challenger 3500 super-midsize business jets. The agreement doubles the size of Airshare’s Challenger fleet, with which the company supports its on-demand charter operations and fractional-ownership program.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will renew the multi-engine training fleet of its Daytona Beach, Florida campus with one-dozen Diamond’s DA42-VI aircraft. Slated for 2024 deliveries, the Embry-Riddle’s new DA42-VI are powered, notably, by Austro Engine’s jet-fuel piston powerplants. Dr. Ken Byrnes, Embry-Riddle assistant dean and Flight chair of Aeronautical Science, stated: "We are excited to extend our long-term use of Diamond DA42 Aircraft.”

France’s fresh addition to the Light Sport market has gotten itself a ticket to the wild west, with a pre-order of up to 100 aircraft - 50 firm, 50 optional - to Scottsdale’s Sierra Charlie Aviation. The deal expands the borders of the current gamut of Elixir operators, bringing the firm a bit of international prestige - with a good chance to stress test the Elixir design in the inferno of an Arizona summer. Going with the sale, Sierra Charlie will cement itself as Elixir’s west coast distributor and support contact for operators stateside.
Electric Power Systems (EPS), a provider of electrical energy storage solutions, has been selected as the battery provider for Elfly’s highly anticipated all-electric seaplane. The companies announced their partnership at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023, in which both companies are participating. Under the terms of the partnership agreement, EPS will deliver its EPiC battery line for the initial demonstration to incorporate upgradable energy solutions.
A temporary ground-stop issued by the Federal Aviation Administration occasioned the delay or cancellation of more than 250 flights operating to/from Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Issued at approximately 12:30 MDT on Monday, 24 July and lifted one-hour later, the ground-stop affected primarily the operations of the airport’s two largest carriers—American Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

Execute Missed Approach
Instructions issued to a pilot making an instrument approach which means continue inbound to the missed approach point and execute the missed approach procedure as described on the Instrument Approach Procedure Chart or as previously assigned by ATC. The pilot may climb immediately to the altitude specified in the missed approach procedure upon making a missed approach. No turns should be initiated prior to reaching the missed approach point. When conducting an ASR or PAR approach, execute the assigned missed approach procedure immediately upon receiving instructions to “execute missed approach.”
