Norman Surplus Finally Completes His Gyroplane Circumnavigation

Trip Began Back In 2010

It only took nine years, but AutoGyro and RotorSport are very happy, and very proud, to report that the intrepid Norman Surplus and his trusty yellow 2006 AutoGyro MT-03 gyroplane G-YROX have completed their circumnavigation of the world, making G-YROX the first gyroplane ever to complete such mileage ... over 30,000 nautical miles, and 32 different countries.

Norman started this epic journey in 2010, with a special aircraft setup compiled with RotorSport UK Ltd. The flights were full of challenges, as can be seen on GyroxGoesGlobal, both on Facebook and on the web. His adventures included crossing the Atlantic in this tiny aircraft, a massive feat and great personal risk.

The trip has lasted 9 years – due to problems crossing Russia and Japan in 2010 – where the aircraft had to be containered.  Norman thought that his trip had ended when he returned to Ireland, but this year decided to continue all the way onwards to the United State again, via Russia, repeating the legs in the air instead of in a container.

No matter what other gyroplanes follow, Norman will always be the first to have flown around the world.

If you are at AirVenture, come and meet Norman and hear his epic tales… Either on the AutoGyro stand or in the Ultralight area. You can also hear him on Oshkosh Radio

On the stand you can also see the successor to the MT-03, the stunning red dot design award winning and Type Certified MTOsport 2017 – with the Rotax 915 iS engine – and the gorgeous Cavalon Type Certified gyroplane. Also available as Experimental kits.
