Skydiver Falls 14,000 Feet

Fatally Injured After Collision With Another Skydiver Over South Carolina

Two skydivers taking part in a skydiving festival in South Carolina Saturday collided after exiting an airplane at 14,000 feet, resulting in the fatal injury of one of the men.

Television station WSOC reports that the body of 32-year-old Bond Springer of Boca Raton, FL was found Sunday morning in a wooded area of Chester County, SC near the Chester airport. Springer's remains were found about 14 hours after the accident occurred. His family described him as an experienced skydiver. Officials said that thunderstorms in the area forced a suspension of the search Saturday night.

The body was discovered by rescue dogs Sunday morning.

The Chester County Sheriff's office said in a news release that Springer was taking part in an advanced wingsuit maneuver when the collision occurred. The other jumper suffered a broken leg, but was able to land safely.

Authorities said that Springer's parachute had not been deployed.

It is not known why the collision occurred.
