Twin Otter Down In Nepal

All 23 Aboard Fatally Injured When Aircraft Impacted Mountainside

A Twin Otter operated by Tara Airlines in Nepal has impacted the side of a mountain in bad weather, resulting in the fatal injury of all 23 people on board the aircraft.

Most of those on board were Nepalese citizens, but the Associated Press reports that there was one person from China and one Kuwaiti on board. Two of the passengers were reportedly children.

The flight was only scheduled to last 18 minutes. Police official Harihari Yogi said that the airplane appears to have flown directly into the side of a mountain in poor weather conditions Wednesday. The Twin Otter had departed from the resort town of Pokhara 125 miles west of Kathmandu en route to Jomsom, which is a starting point for mountain climbers in Nepal.

It took rescuers several hours to locate and then reach the wreckage of the airplane, which authorities said was still burning when they arrived.
