'Mena' Producer Faces Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Filed By Widow Of Man Fatally Injured In Airplane Accident During Film's Production

The widow of one of two crewmen fatally injured when the plane they were aboard went down during the production of the Tom Cruise movie "Mena" has sued the production company and the estate of the pilot flying the airplane.

The suit, filed by Kathryn Purwin, the widow of Alan Purwin, states that the "Defendants knew that the Accident Aircraft would be flown over rugged, mountainous terrain and in the Republic of Colombia, and yet failed to ensure that Carlos Berl was competent, qualified, rested and sufficiently informed for the flight."

Named as defendants in the suit are Cross Creek Pictures, Imagine Entertainment, Vendian Entertainment and Quadrant Pictures. It further claims that Berl was not a member of the crew, and allowing him on location violated the closed set policies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Purwin's family is also suing Berl's estate.

Purwin was the founder and president of Helinet Technologies, and was himself a helicopter pilot.

A third person on board the aircraft was also injured.
