Airborne 03.13.20: SnF2020 Postponed, VoltAero Cassio, AA Cadet Academy

Also: First Flight-CL415EAF, Axiom Space, ICAO Council, FAA Revokes Paradigm Air Operators Cert

We knew something like this was coming... but we had hopes for the best. Now, the folks at Sun 'n Fun have made what had to be a truly difficult decision...

Sun 'Fun Statement (Official): "SUN ‘n FUN and the Aerospace Center for Excellence are deeply concerned about the developing crisis with COVID-19 and understand our responsibility to help in the fight against the spread of the disease. Our first priority is always the health, safety, and well-being of our patrons, partners, staff and volunteers. With the full support of Polk County, the City of Lakeland, Lakeland Linder International Airport, and the FAA, at this time we are planning to postpone the 2020 SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo until May 5-10..." VoltAero has marked a significant milestone in developing its all-new family of Cassio e-aircraft with initiation of flight testing using Safran Electrical & Power’s ENGINeUS smart electric motors. This testing is a major step toward validating the electric and hybrid-electric powertrains for Cassio aircraft. It keeps the company on track in evolving a family of airplanes with four to nine seats, tailored for operation by private owners, air taxi/charter companies, in commercial flights for point-to-point regional travel, and in various utility-category applications. Among the 24 pilots who were hired by Envoy Air earlier this week was Keith Taylor, who is the first graduate of American Airlines Cadet Academy. American established the academy to provide a consistent supply of qualified pilots for the carrier in light of the looming pilot shortage predicted by the industry in the coming years. On its website, The Academy says that prospective pilots with little or no flight experience can now begin their career track without the complexity and uncertainty traditionally associated with flight training. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
