China Expands GA Infrastructure

Has More Than Doubled The Number Of General Aviation Airports Since The End Of 2017

The number of general aviation airports has more than doubled between the end of 2017 and June, 2018, with 173 GA airports now licensed in the country.

The Xinhua news service reports that there are a total of 404 airports in the country, including 231 civil airports. The government reports about 430,000 flight hours for all kinds of general aviation services by the end of June, an increase of 14.7 percent over the same period last year.

China believes that GA will have a tremendous economic impact in the country, and is gearing up to develop a support system, according to the report. That would include laws and regulations, aviation services and supervision. The expansion is expected to be well underway in the next two to three years.

China anticipates the opening of 200 new general aviation airports by 2020, which would bring the number of facilities to around 500. By 2030, that figure is expected to climb to 2,000 airports.
