While the planes get their lion's share of the attention at the
recently concluded NBAA 2010 convention, there were other important
stories happening as well... such as a software product that keeps
those planes heading where they need to go... accurately and
clearly. Jeppesen took chart viewing and updating to a new level
with their intro of a new digital charting solution for the bizav
community via the Jeppesen eChart Viewer.
The Web-based digital charting solution provides online chart
access worldwide and includes an auto-update service that
eliminates the need for manual chart updates. The online capability
now allows pilots to print charts on-the-go from any computer and
serves as a valuable pre-flight planning tool. Jeppesen eChart
Viewer also offers enhanced Jeppesen Airway Manual text in HTML
format and provides enhanced IFR and VFR chart viewing and search
capabilities.
Jeppesen introduced the new eChart Viewer service, last week, to
the marketplace in coordination with a public signing of a service
agreement today with Avantair, the only publicly traded stand-alone
private aircraft operator, the initial customer of the digital
charting service.
Avantair is a U.S.-based provider of fractional aircraft
ownership and flight hour time cards with a fleet of 50+ aircraft.
Prior to the service agreement signing, Jeppesen previously
developed a short-term custom digital charting solution for
Avantair, to resolve an immediate operational need. This system
allowed Avantair to securely and seamlessly access updated
electronic terminal charts and other flight information online.
The introduction of Jeppesen eChart Viewer helps business
aviation operators transition to the use of digital flight
information instead of paper-based materials on the flight deck,
which increases the speed and organization of information
delivery.
