Aero-TV: The BD-17 And BD-22 -- BedeCorp’s LSA Offerings

Single and Two-Place LSA Offerings Offer Easy Construction, Economical Operation

While at EAA AirVenture 2014, ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, visited with the President of BedeCorp, James Bede, about their line of aircraft that were on display. Tom’s first question was about the Bede 22. He pointed out that it seems similar to the Bede design that later became the American Yankee, and he asked about the similarities.

Bede pointed out that it uses a bonded honeycomb structure similar to the American Yankee but that the production process is simpler. In the video, he goes on to explain the differences between the processes. Another difference between this airplane and the original Bede design is that this aircraft qualifies as an LSA.

Tom next moved on to the Bede 17 which is a sporty looking single place airplane. Bede said the primary purpose of single-place airplane was to allow an inexpensive option for someone that wants to build flying time. The engine in this prototype only burns about 3 ½ gallons of fuel per hour yet still provides a decent cruise speed for traveling.

Bede also spent some time talking about their build-centers to help builders get a start on their Bede building projects. In the video you’ll learn about the airplanes they now produce and you’ll take a look at plans for future airplane development.
