Flight Attendant Union Endorses Ed Markey For U.S. Senate

Cites 'Strong Record On Aviation Security'

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) has endorsed Congressman Ed Markey for the U.S. Senate, specifically noting his proven record on strengthening aviation security. The Association of Flight Attendants emphatically endorses Ed Markey for election to the Senate. Flight attendants and the traveling public are safer and our nation is more secure because Ed Markey (pictured) refused to settle for anything less than 100 percent screening of air cargo on passenger planes.

In a news release, the union said that in the days immediately following September 11, 2001, Congressman Markey made a personal promise to flight attendants based in Boston. He vowed that our friends and colleagues would never be forgotten and their memories would fuel his fight for improved aviation security. Ed Markey kept his promise and his actions continue to demonstrate his commitment. Once again he is leading the charge for safe skies and our national security as he fights to keep knives out of the aircraft cabin.

"Ed Markey not only voted consistently to honor our flight attendant heroes and all of the victims of 9/11 – he refused to allow their deaths to be politicized in the process. We are forever grateful," stated Sara Nelson, Boston-based flight attendant and vice president of AFA. "His record is long and his heart is in every battle. He listens to every issue the way he listened to the grief of hundreds of Flight Attendants in Boston who mourned the loss of our friends nearly twelve years ago. National security is layered and complex, but Ed Markey has remained a stalwart champion because he is committed to the people it protects. The people like my friends and fellow crewmembers and the people he has known for a lifetime through his advocacy as a representative for Massachusetts."
