Aero-TV At OSH21: Flight Design Speaks With ANN At Oshkosh

President Tom Peghiny Reveals Details About The F2

Flight Design is now producing six airplanes per month out of their facilities in Germany, Czech Republic and Ukraine. The F2 was approved by the FAA as a special light sport aircraft on July 8th, according to President of Flight Design USA, Tom Peghiny.

Peghiny spoke with ANN about the newly approved F2 at Oshkosh. “The F2 has a longer wingspan than the CT Series, it’s just under 33 feet and the CTLS and CTSW are just over 27. It gives good higher altitude performance and a true airspeed cruise, the higher you go, the more it likes it. It has a larger cabin, its 51 inches wide as opposed to 49 on the CTLS,” he explains

“There is a rather giant storage area behind the seats on the F2 and we expect people putting folding bikes in there or bringing their dog out to Martha’s Vineyard, something like that,” he continues.

“It burns around 4.1 gallons per hour cruising 5,000 or 6,000 feet at a true airspeed of 120 kts. It gets around 26/27 mpg. It will run on 91/93 pump gas with ethanol. It takes 34 gallons of fuel, so it will go 850 nautical miles on a full load of fuel. We have 23 on order, and I think 14 of that 23 have been sold to the end users, so it's going to take about 5-6 months right now but we are upping production. We expect to get to 8 airplanes a month by early 2022. We think the demand will be there, we think we will be selling 50 or 60 units a year,” says Peghiny.

The price for this airplane is $205,000.

The data package for the certified version of the F2 called the F2 CS-23 has been submitted to the EASA, and is hoping for a type certificate in September 2021.

The F4 is in design, and Peghiny reveals that they have put a third door on the left hand pilot’s side, and the aircraft will be powered by the Rotax 916, providing 160 hp for takeoff.
