Drone-in-a-box is an emerging form of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology that—as the appellation suggests—utilizes drones that deploy autonomously from a box that functions as a landing base, shelter, charging station, and upload interface. In such systems, a drone—after carrying out operator-designated missions—returns to its box to charge and/or upload information gathered during the sortie.
Percepto’s is the most deployed drone-in-a-box solution on the market with Fortune 500 customers in more than 10 countries. The company produces two drone models: the robust Max, which offers operators 24MP RGB and radiometric thermal cameras which are customizable to suit specific inspection or mapping tasks; and the nimbler Mobile, which is suited to missions requiring a smaller, lighter vehicle and base.
Both the Max and Mobile UAVs are IP55 water and dust resistant and can be operated in harsh environments. With a diagonal, rotor-tip to rotor-tip dimension of 157-centimeters and a weight of 9.5-kilograms (21-pounds) the Max is a good deal larger than the Mobile, which measures a comparatively dainty 68-centimeters and 4.2-kilograms (9.3-pounds).
A more substantial disparity exists between the sizes of the two drones’ IP-56-rated bases—with the Mobile’s box weighing a relatively svelte one-hundred-kilograms (221-pounds) and the Max’s weighing-in at a hefty 350-kilograms (772-pounds).
Both the Max and the Mobile are eminently capable of performing autonomous inspections of a wide variety of facilities and installations, detecting safety and security hazards, and reporting their findings over vast distances.
