Three Fatally Injured In SoCal Cessna 310 Accident

Occupants Had Attended A Cheerleading Competition At Disneyland

A Cessna 310 with five people on board went down Monday, impacting two homes in Riverside, CA Monday afternoon. Three of the five were fatally injured in the accident.

USA Today reports that the occupants of the airplane, a husband, wife and three teenagers, had traveled to Riverside from San Jose for a cheerleading competition at Disneyland, according to Riverside Fire Chief Michael Moore.

First responders arrived on the scene at about 1640 local time. The aircraft had impacted the front of two houses which were destroyed by the post-impact fire. No one on the ground was reported to be injured.

A woman, whose clothes were reportedly on fire, crawled out of one of the houses and said she had been flying the airplane. Another unconscious passenger was pulled from one of the houses and transported to a nearby hospital, where they underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition. The three people fatally injured were recovered from the airplane.

The plane was departing from Riverside Municipal Airport when the accident occurred. It went down in the residential neighborhood about a half-mile northeast of the airport, according to FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.
