ANN regrets to inform you that the truly stunning Bugatti 100p replica aircraft went down, with the loss of its pilot, Scotty Wilson.
The accident occurred early Saturday morning, near Burns Flat, Oklahoma. The replica first flew in August of 2015 and dealt with a number of teething problems along the way, including an incident on its first flight whereby the aircraft was damaged when the right brake failed after landing, and the plane veered off the runway. As previously reported on Airborne Unlimited, a second flight was performed in October of that year that concluded successfully. The Saturday flight was reportedly the third test flight of the aircraft. The General Aviation Manufacturers Association has released worldwide aircraft shipment and billing figures for the first half of 2016, and the report indicates that the industry is facing challenges. Industry airplane shipments declined 4.5 percent, and airplane billings fell 11 percent. Rotorcraft shipments also dropped 16.1 percent. Billings for rotorcraft indicated a significant downturn of 32.5 percent for the same time period last year. Moon Express’s plan to become
first private company to leave this world to explore another may soon be a reality. The U.S. Government has made a historic ruling granting the first private enterprise, Moon Express, permission to travel beyond Earth's orbit and land on the Moon in 2017. This breakthrough U.S. policy decision provides authorization to Moon Express for a maiden flight of its robotic spacecraft to the Moon's surface. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
