Proposed New Jersey Heliport Draws Fire From Local Councilman

David Donnelly Has Petitioned The FAA To Cancel Approval

Jersey City Ward B Councilman David Donnelly has petitioned the FAA to cancel the approval of a new heliport in Kearney, NJ. The Councilman says the noise from low-flying helicopters over his district would be "not merely a nuisance, it will be frightening."

Councilman Donnelly Official Photpo

Helicopters approaching the heliport would be required to hover at 300 feet or lower prior to receiving clearance to transit Newark Airport's flight path. The New Jersey Journal reports that documents indicate it would be open 24/7, and would generated between 35 and 45 landings on days when there is good weather.

Al Santos, the Mayor of Kerney, says no one lives within a mile of the proposed site ... other than prisoners living at the county jail. He said the heliport is an important part of the planned re-development of the South Kerney region.
