Icon A5 Down In Canada

Pilot Reportedly Attempted Water Landing With Landing Gear Extended

An Icon A5 went down Monday afternoon in Okanagan Lake in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The two people on board the airplane were hospitalized following the accident.

Radio station CKWX reports that, according to Caeli Turner with BC Emergency Health Services, that the call came in around 5:00 p.m. local time. "Paramedics arrived to the scene and there were two patients that were transported by ambulance to hospital but in stable condition,” she said.

Global News reports that the two people on board were a 72-year-old man who was piloting the aircraft and a 59-yer-old passenger.

Local authorities said the wheels of the plane were down when the pilot attempted the landing. The Castanet news service reports that, according to the RCMP, the plane has been recovered and secured by officials.

FAA records indicated that the airplane is registered to International Air Service Inc. Trustee with an address in Carson City, NV. It was issued an airworthiness certificate in October, 2018.

The pilot and passenger have not been identified, but Global News reports that the pilot was from Alberta, Canada.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating.
