Student Pilot Detained For Busting NASA Airspace

Said He Was Lost In Clouds

How do you explain why, as a flight student, you busted some of the most sensitive airspace in the world?

"Honest, officer, I was lost in the clouds."

That appears to have been the line a student pilot from Vero Beach, FL, used when he was asked to explain just why he had overflown the Kennedy Space Center.

Jacksonville's WJXT Television reports 26-year old Bryant Ryals was flying along in a FlightSafety International Piper PA-28-161 (file photo of type, above) when he apparently strayed into KSC airspace. NASA aircraft followed Ryals home to St. Augustine. There he was greeted by a bevy of deputies from the St. John's County Sheriff's Office.

Ryals was detained, questioned, then released according to the report. An FAA official told the TV station that the transgression indeed appeared to have been accidental.
