Florida to Host 2022 MultiGP Drone Racing Championships

The Swiftness of the Still

The popularity of Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) racing was compellingly evinced by the 710 drone-pilots who vied to enter the 2022 MultiGP Drone Racing Championship—a six-day event to be held from 18 through 23 October at the No Quarter Ranch drone field in Citrus Springs, Florida.

The event’s Sport Class championship will take place 18 and 19 October with the 20th held in reserve as a rain delay day. The Pro Class event will commence on 20 October and conclude in grand fashion on 22 October—with the 23rd held in reserve as a rain day.

To recognize tomorrow’s champions and top-ranking qualifiers, the organizers of the 2022 MultiGP Drone Racing Championship will again employ “The Next …” format, by which both the Sport and Pro groups will have secondary championships for “the Next 40,” resulting in non-stop action throughout the weekend, and two “blade-to-blade” top-16 double-elimination brackets with Chase-The-Ace Grand final races.

Pilots ranked within the top-150 on the Global List are eligible to attend the 2022 MultiGP Drone Racing Championship Pro Class Weekend. The first one-hundred sport pilots, 151-250, will be invited to fill any Pro Class vacancies!  Sport pilots 151-250 will also have exclusive access—until Friday, 09 September—to purchase their tickets, after which organizers will open Sport ticket sales to all who have participated in a Global Qualifier and are Sport Class ranked.

Individuals wishing to acquire event T-shirts must place their orders for such by 26 September.

The final date on which event tickets may be purchased is Friday, 14 October 2022.

The competition’s first day will comprise Sport Class practice and qualifying with pack counts of 8-12—depending on total attendance. Day-two will see a ‘Next’ bracket (for those not in the top bracket) and the Sport Class Championship. Day-two’s minimum pack count is expected to be four.

Pro Class competitors will spend days one and two qualifying on two different tracks, with roughly 4 packs per day per track. On Saturday 22 October, a Next-40 Champion Bracket race will be run, followed by the Pro Championship.

Competitors’ qualifying times will be predicated upon the combined times of their fastest three laps of each track.

The joint Sport and Pro Class track is located at 7750 N Pocono Drive, Citrus Springs, FL 34434. The expressly Pro Class track is at 3494-3798 W Educational Path, Lecanto, FL 34461. Area hotels include a Comfort Suites near Rainbow Springs, a Quality Inn Conference Center at Citrus Hills, a Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites of Crystal River, and a Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites of Inverness.
