FAA Approves Avionica’s 4G Cellular Module

AML Includes 250 Aircraft Models

The FAA has approved installation of aircraft satellite communications equipment manufacturer Avionica's avCM, a fourth generation cellular module designed for increased high-speed transmission of flight data, on 250 aircraft models.

“The 4G avCM is the natural technology advancement in cellular design for getting flight data off an airplane. It is lighter, has no external antennae and no longer requires a battery. And it’s in compliance with the FAA approved model list on 250 aircraft types, including almost every Part 25 business jet,” said Raul Segredo, Avionica’s president and chief executive officer.
 
The FAA issued Supplemental Type Certificate No. ST03885AT for the avCM, which is compatible with Avionica’s line of miniature quick access recorder (QAR) products, including the miniQAR MKIII and avSYNC support tools. It has the capability to transmit flight data analysis up to six times faster than previous 3G modules.
 
The Mark II and Mark III QAR products are installed and capturing data on more than 8,000 aircraft. When combined with Avionica’s avSYNC flight data analysis software, the service guarantees all flight data is uploaded within 24 hours or less of flight operations.
