US Navy Blue Angels Will Headline July 3-4, 2021
KC Air Show Charities announced that the 2020 KC Air Show is being postponed due to ongoing COVID-19 safety concerns and rescheduled from September 5-6, 2020 to July 3-4, 2021 at New Century AirCenter. The September 2020 show was to be headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds who will be replaced by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels in the 2021 performer lineup. Tickets already purchased for 2020 will be honored for 2021 at the lower 2020 price.
Safety has always been the top priority for the KC Air Show. Safety concerns and restrictions related to COVID-19 have caused the cancellation or postponement of most air shows across North America in 2020. The KC Air Show team made several changes to adapt to this year's unique environment, however due to the recent COVID-19 resurgence determined it was not feasible to hold the show in September.
“In these uncertain times, we can very much appreciate and respect the difficult decision KC Airshow Charities has made with regard to this year’s schedule. While it is unfortunate, we fully support the proactive measures they are taking in the interest of public health and safety of our community,” said Chairman Ed Eilert of the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners. “We are looking forward to an exciting show to be presented July 3-4, 2021 and know that it will be well worth the wait.”
In 2021, the Blue Angels are scheduled to transition from their familiar F/A-18C/D model Hornets they've flown since 1986 to the much larger, louder, and more powerful F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. This will make the low-altitude, tight-turning performances of the Blue Angel solos and the precision and majesty of the formations even more impressive.
The 2021 show will continue to feature the majority of the announced 2020 performers such as the AeroShell Formation Team, P-51 Mustang "By Request", Rob Holland, the Aftershock Jet Truck and many more. The show also announced the addition of the Red Bull Air Force, which includes former Aerobatic World Champion and five-time National Champion and Red Bull Air Racer Kirby Chambliss, the Red Bull Skydiving Team, and Aaron Fitzgerald with the Red Bull Helicopter.
