Thunderbirds Resume Practice Following Last Week's Accident

Plane Moved From Field In Colorado Where It Went Down

The Air Force Thunderbirds have resumed practice following an accident last week that badly damaged one of the team's F-16s.

Maj. Alex Turner was flying the Number 6 Thunderbird during graduation ceremonies at the Air Force Academy when it developed a problem, and he steered it towards the field south of Colorado Springs before ejecting. Maj. Turner was listed in "good medical condition" while hospitalized, according to the Thunderbirds website.

Television station KKTV reports that the team cancelled its show this weekend in Rhode Island, and it has not yet been decided whether they will fly the following weekend at an airshow at Ocean City, MD.

Meanwhile, crews gathered up the pieces of the broken F-16 and moved them to a hangar at Peterson Air Force Base about five miles from the accident scene. The move was planned Monday but had to be postponed because of thunderstorms in the area.

The official investigation into the cause of the accident is still underway.
