VP of Engineering, Gus Kyriakos, Recognized for Engineering
Excellence
Gus Kyriakos, Aspen Avionics’ Vice President of
Engineering, has been nominated as a candidate for Design
News’ prestigious Engineer of the Year award. Kyriakos was
nominated along with three other engineers, with the winner
selected by on-line voting by the magazine’s readers.
Design News Contributing Editor John Loughmiller described
Kyriakos as, “a shirtsleeve manager, not an office dweller,
with over 35 years experience in the avionics industry, and a
person who considers the term ‘impossible’ to be a
personal challenge.” Design News is the leading technical
resource for design engineers with a circulation of 170,000. Prior
to joining Aspen Avionics, Kyriakos was employed by Avidyne
Corporation where he was Director, Communications, Navigation, and
Surveillance Engineering. Before that, he worked for Rockwell
Collins in Cedar Rapids, where he was a Senior Director in
Engineering. Kyriakos also led design and development projects for
Allied Signal, Horizon Research Labs and Systems Engineering Labs.
Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience
developing products for the commercial, military, business and
general aviation markets.
Kyriakos holds five patents for RF and digital design for radar
altimeters, and six patents for RF and signal processing for TCAS.
In addition, he is the youngest recipient of the Volare Award,
presented by the Airline Avionics Institute.
“Gus is already recognized as part of the elite group of
engineers in the aviation industry,” said John Uczekaj, Aspen
Avionics’ President and CEO. “Now his engineering
talent is being honored among all engineers. We’re delighted
for Gus and proud that he chose to bring his skills and
considerable experience to Aspen.” The Engineer of the Year
will be announced in the September 2009 issue of Design News. In
addition to being named Engineer of the Year, the winner will be
inducted into Design News’ Engineer Hall of Fame.
