A380 Test Flight Cut Short By Gear Door Indicator

It wasn't a big deal -- except that it involved the biggest commercial plane flying.

That's the word out of Toulouse, France, where an Airbus A380 had to cut short a planned hot-weather testing flight over Africa Tuesday when pilots received an indication one of the plane's main landing gear doors hadn't closed properly.

It was a "minor incident," an Airbus spokeswoman said... adding the only reason the shortened flight made any news at all was that journalists waiting for the plane's arrival in Tunisia needed something to write about.

Well, there's that... but even while this does appear to be a typical flight-testing snag, there's no denying the entire A380 program is under many watchful eyes, after June's announcement of production delays shook up the entire management structure of Airbus parent company European Aeronautic Defence & Space Company.

Airbus will reschedule the test flight for a later date.
