Two Fatally Injured In Grand Teton National Park Accident

RV-7 Was Possibly Heading To Jackson Hole, WY Airport

A Vans RV-7 airplane went down in Grand Teton National Park Wednesday, resulting in the fatal injury of the two people on board.

Witnesses said the plane was approaching Jackson Hole Airport (KJAC) from the south when it suddenly banked and nose-dived into the ground, according to a report in the Jackson Hole News & Guide and relayed by the Associated Press. Park spokeswoman Jackie Skaggs would not say whether the plane was headed to KJAC, or had departed from there.

The Vans was registered to a resident of Loveland, CO. Officials are withholding the names of those on board until relatives can be notified.

Skaggs said that the weather was VFR at the time of the accident.

KJAC has a reputation of having challenging approaches and departures because of the mountainous terrain surrounding the airport. It is also the busiest in Wyoming.

Skaggs said that park rangers were documenting the accident scene, and that the NTSB had begun its initial investigation.
