Boeing To Boost 737 Output By Ten Planes Per Month

Tinseth Says 'Appetite' For The Single-Aisle Airliners Justifies The Increase

Boeing commercial airplanes CEO Ray Conner said recently that the company plans to boost output of the 737 factory in Renton to 52 airplanes per month ... a jump of 10 per month over the current rate of production ... by 2018.

On his company blog, Randy Tinseth, Boeing's vice president of marketing for Commercial Airplanes, said that a strong order book, which includes nearly 2,300 737 MAX airplanes, justifies the planned increase in production rate.

"The fact that we’re even looking at the possibility of 52 per month reflects the appetite for airplanes like the 737 MAX and Next-Generation 737," Tinseth wrote. "That demand is incredibly strong in China. They are a huge driver—and will only keep growing."

Tinseth said that Boeing last week surpassed 1,000 net orders for the year, and that does not include a commitment for 100 of the company's MAX 200 airplanes which won't be posted until later this year.
